MWCC Animation

Ladies and Gents, welcome!

The renaissance is upon us. Traditional animation was a staple in Miami till the whole computer thing came along, and is about to come back in a big way. MWCC Animation is going to put it back in step.

Allow me to clarify:

The Miami World Cinema Center is a non-profit film studio located in the heart of Wynwood that support local filmmakers with everything from complete funding to discounted equipment from the best rental houses in the city to press or an opinion on a project or whatever else thou truest cinematic heart may desire!

Recently, I, Spencer Morin (how ya' doin'?) have become the head of the MWCC Animation Department and we're working on creating an in-house animation studio where traditional experimental and narrative short (or feature) animations may be produced!

As of now we have my desk, but that's going to change extremely soon.

Our first event will be held on October 12th at the News Lounge at the 55th Street Station! It's called Drinking and Drawing! There may even be some free booze involved! Stay tuned on those specs. Regardless there will be cheap drinks and some great fun in the mix!

Drinking and Drawing is actually a Southeastern Premier of a party thrown annually by Frederator Studios (famous for creating the Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, and many other Cartoon Network shows) where artists and animators of all types get together to create an animation in one night! LIKE MAGIC! It'll be Miami's premier animation jam and we hope to keep it going as possibly a monthly or bimonthly affair!

If you wanna' animate at the event, email me at animation@miamiworld.org

Hope to see you there! STAY TUNED!

Love,

Spencer Morin

Drinking & Drawing

October 12th, 8:00 pm, The News Lounge at the 55th Street Station

Drinking and Drawing is an animated jam where animators and animation fans get together todraw and mingle. Those who join in the drawing fun participate in the creation of a film in just one night! Here’s how it happens:

Groups of animators are called up to the drawing area, 10 at a time. Each animator receives 8 blank note cards, as well as the last card from the animator that drew before them. They have exactly 10 minutes (that’s 75 seconds a card) to continue the animation on each card. At the end of that 10 minutes, all of the animators are kicked out of their seats and a new batch is called to the table.

It ends up being a high-paced musical chairs way of doing an animation, and it’s loads of fun! Plus, by the end of the night, we have a short film (about 1 - 2 minutes long), created by dozens of animators!

The theme for the event will be “Wild Things” in celebration of the release of Spike Jonze’s film “Where The Wild Things Are.” This also fits the aesthetic of animation in that animation is the sole form of film that allows anyone to manifest their deepestand most passionate imagination into flowing and screaming life.

There will be video and photo coverage of the event. A press release will be scripted citing the event to be presented by MWCC Animation in conjunction with Frederator Studios. There will also be some cross promotion for the South Beach Animation Festival.
